Eagles vs. UBS @ Kimberly Park on May 5th, 2009
Both teams defied the weather forecast and were able to get a wonderful game of cricket last Saturday. Conditions were
pretty damp as we arrived at the field. Bobby along with a few others rolled the pitch to perfection and it showed throughout
the game.
Eagles, unexpectedly won the toss and elected to field first. The decision paid off immediately as UBS lost 2 quick wickets.
Santosh and Satish tried to bring some respectability to the total by nudging the ball around and were faced with some close
calls. The short partnership ended with another collapse in batting, partly due to poor selection of shots and some excellent
bowling by Mahmood, Sibhu and Sharat. UBS was eventually reduced to 83 for 7 in 28 overs. With only one recognized
batsman (Akash) on the crease, it seemed that it was all over for UBS or so Eagles thought? Akash along with Rajesh hit
Eagles all over the park in the last 6-7 overs and UBS ended up with a decent total of 154 in 35 overs. It seemed that they had
switched the batting order backwards as the 2 highest scorers came in at 8 and 9.
Eagles seemed in a bit of trouble from the get go as we lost our first wicket before even putting a run on the scoreboard.
Mahmood, star of the first two games hit a towering six over the mid wicket and a four but was caught behind with Eagles 23
for 2 in 5 overs. The captain came into bat and took the score to 36 with Jigar in 9 overs. UBS captain gave  bowling to
injured Akash, who bowled the captain on the very first over with quite bit of a luck. Hassan joined Jigar in the middle, who
was looking very comfortable and the two slowly but without any further damage took the score to drinks (77 for 3 in 17
overs). Hassan was lbw right after the drinks but Jigar held is cool and  brought up Eagles 100 and his own 50 along with
Bikram. Asif and Bikram chipped in and it seemed clear that the match would go down to the wire with Eagles at 136 for 6 in
32 overs. Eagles lost another wicket in the 33rd over needing 15 runs from 9 balls. At this point, UBS was looking to once
again steal the game from Eagles but Shafi came in and hit a big six over mid wicket with the teammates jumping with joy the
next ball he got run out and the outlook of the match seemed to be in UBS’s favor again. With tension all over the park, Sibhu
hit a six over the covers with 2 balls to go and Eagles were finally home!
Great Team work and kudos to last few batsmen who kept their cool under the face of immense pressure and unnecessary
appeals by UBS.

Regards,
Hassan
